Rainbow Hued Light Labyrinth by Brut Deluxe
As part of the luneng sanya bay light and art festival in hainan, china, architecture and design studio brut deluxe has created an immersive light maze that surrounds visitors in a prismatic and dynamic abyss. ‘yǔzhòu’ has been built using 2.5 meter high acrylic glass panels with dichroic film glued to one side. this turns the semi-transparent walls into reflective sheets that shift light rays across the color range of a rainbow. as viewers move through the installation, the hues gradate from cool blues and greens, to vibrant pink and orange tones.
With a configuration based on triangular geometries, ‘yǔzhòu’ surrounds visitors in a labyrinth of layered color and light. brut deluxe has engraved a unique pattern of circular grooves onto one side of the acrylic glass sheets. these mechanically-carved motifs are illuminated by powerful LED rails that create subtly shifting colors throughout. photographed here by miguel de guzmán and rocío romero of imagen subliminal, the installation becomes a reflective infinity room as a result of the mirrored film that wraps the outer perimeter panels. once inside, ever-changing light patterns and dynamically-shifting hues surround visitors in an animated, chromatic universe.
